Check in
My flight coincided with the Hari Raya long weekend. When I arrived at Changi Airport, there was already an unusual long queue at the Business Class’s check-in counters. I could see the staffs working their best to clear the queue. Fortunately, I was in the right queue which seemed to be moving faster than the others.
SilverKris lounge
It was my first time taking Business Class departing from Changi Airport and I was looking forward to my first visit to the SilverKris Lounge.
It was 11pm but the lounge was packed with travellers. I walked for a good few minutes before finding a solo seat at a far corner. Food wise, SilverKris Lounge has a very good selection of hot food.
There were Fried Carrot Cake, Fish Fillet, Chicken Drumstick, Mee Soto, Siew Mai, Bun, Porridge, Indian Vegetarian style food, Nasi Lemak, Spaghetti etc.
There were also desserts like Cheng Tng (清汤), Tau Suan, Cakes etc.
There are washrooms within the lounge and the one I went to has very good essentials such as toothbrush, toothpaste, body lotion, face spray, razor etc. These will be useful for those overnight flight transit passengers.
The flight: SQ 656 A330 Business Class Singapore – Fukuoka
I wasn’t particularly excited or looking forward to this flight. Perhaps because it was a red eye flight or because I knew it was an A330 flight.
A330 features a 2-2-2 seat configuration with angled-flat beds as opposed to fully-flat sleepers. This means that you will not get a full flat resting position.
To be honest, there is no WOW factor for the Business Class seat in aircraft type A330. It is probably just slightly bigger than the premium economy class seat. I think Singapore Airlines should deploy this aircraft model for shorter route flight. 6-7 hours flight is always at the awkward situation where comfort is still important and therefore A330 may not be so suitable. There are still many A330 flights for medium haul flight such as Australia, Japan, and Korea.
For A330 flight, the best seats would be the first row, which is row 11. It offers the most spacious legroom compared to the other rows. Row 11 is also where you’ll find baby bassinets – and for that reason you can’t often choose these seats online. I was lucky that I could choose seat 11A during the flight redemption.
The magazine rack was placed just outside the plane and I grabbed a copy of Men’s Health magazine.
On Board SQ 656 A330 Business Class Singapore – Fukuoka
Welcome drink (champagne) was offered once on board. Crew came to ask if I would like my book the cook meal to be served upon taking off or just before landing. Strange enough, I would think two small meals should be served instead of just one for this type of red eye flight. Hunger usually strikes faster during the night especially if you cannot sleep. However, knowing that there was going to be just one meal served, I filled my tummy at the lounge. Thus, I opted to have my meal served just before landing.
Seat 11A, SQ 656 A330 Business Class Singapore – Fukuoka
TV is slightly to the right side due to the fact that the plane start to expand from the cheek of the plane for seat 11A.
Seat pocket is far to reach due to the spacious leg room. If you need to get your reading materials or menu which are tucked in the seat pocket, you will need to unbuckle the seatbelt to reach the seat pocket.
I tried very hard to sleep but I just could not get any sleep. Not because it is not fully flat bed, but because I am a light sleeper. Even if I get a fully flat seat like in A350 Business Class, I probably would not be able to get any sleep. So I just watch movies and sitcoms Friends.
Lavatory, SQ 656 A330 Business Class Singapore – Fukuoka
The usual stuffs you will find in Business Class.
SQ bears
If you have read from my previous experiences on SQ 863 A380 Suites Class and SQ 323 A350 Business Class, I have always asked the crew for a pair of SQ bears. However, for this flight the crew only managed to get the female version of the bear for me. She advised me to get the male version in the returning leg.
Meal on board SQ 656 A330 Business Class Singapore – Fukuoka
Just before landing, my meal service starts as I opted for having my meal before landing. Fruits, yogurt, bread and drinks to start off the meal service.
After that, the main course Classic Lobster Thermidor was served. I used the Book the Cook option where you can reserve your main course up to 24 hours before you fly, including creations by notable chefs from Singapore Airlines International Culinary Panel. As I wasn’t used to having rice early in the morning, I only had a few spoonful of rice but I did finish the rest.
